Worldwide Universities Network (WUN)
About WUN: Overview
The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) is a consortium of 19-leading research institutions from around the world, partnering together in a collaborative effort to create a global research community in response to global needs and challenges.
Founded in 2000, WUN activity to date includes collaborative research, virtual seminars, joint distributed learning, and student and staff exchanges. For more information regarding WUN activities visit the WUN website.
Towards the end of 2009, UCT joined the WUN partnership of research-led universities from Europe, North America, South America, South East Asia, Australia, and Africa. The WUN alliance exists to make significant advances in knowledge and understanding in areas of current global concern. By fostering and encouraging collaboration between its members, WUN brings together the experience, equipment and expertise necessary to tackle the big issues currently facing societies, government, corporations and education. Staff and students are encouraged to participate in WUN's expansive and innovative portfolio of research activities.
"The University of Cape Town is pleased to announce it will join the Worldwide Universities Network," said Professor Jo Beall, the then Deputy Vice Chancellor, Internationalisation, University of Cape Town.
"Its key objectives are aligned with UCTs own strategic vision and we believe that our membership of WUN will help extend our partnership profile and enhance our goal of internationalisation with an Afropolitan niche," said Professor Thandabantu Nhlapo, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Cape Town.
The Chief Executive of WUN, Professor John Hearn from the University of Sydney said: "On behalf of all partners, I am delighted to welcome the University of Cape Town, with its many research strengths, to WUN.
