Merit awards

The primary and most substantial form of assistance for Honours, Masters & Doctoral students is granted on the basis of merit.

Merit awards are funded from a variety of sources, and the primary awards that are available to Honours Masters and Doctoral students are applied for via the NRF and MRC. (See/Click Research Scholarships.)

Students should also please refer to the NRF Website - www.nrf.ac.za.

University-sourced merit awards can be applied for only by students who have applied to the NRF and/or the MRC. For application procedures see/click on UCT Merit and Need awards.

New South African applicants for UCT Merit and Needs- Based awards are required to complete UCT 2013 Form 10A. Continuing students applying for renewal are required to complete UCT Form 10B.

New International and Refugee Students are required to complete UCT Form 10C. Continuing International and Refugee students applying for renewal are required to complete Form 10F.

Each December individual Faculties make merit awards to graduating students who have performed exceptionally well. The academic departments identify recipients, and an application form for this category of award is not required.
