IAPO services: Orientation
Orientation is a university-wide process. Academic faculties, residences and support departments such as the Department of Student Affairs host a variety of activities aimed at welcoming you to UCT and making you feel part of the university community. It is important for students to attend these orientation activities. Our orientation is conducted with the help of fellow students who are orientation leaders, who will help you with information you need to know about Cape Town, UCT faculties, staying on and off campus, etc. They are a friendly group of both South African and international student leaders who have been trained to assist new students.
For further information download the Orientation booklet.
Orientation
Every year the International Office (IAPO) arranges an orientation programme for international students to assist with transition to UCT and Cape Town in general. We look forward to new students participation in all the activities. Note that IAPO’s orientation complements the programmes arranged by your faculty or department. Through IAPO’s orientation programme students learn important information regarding safety, health, immigration and services offered by the international office. The programme also introduces students to support services at UCT, the UCT environs and adjusting to South African culture.
During orientation, please do not hesitate to ask for assistance from our vibrant group of orientation leaders.
An important note on pre-registration
International students' pre-registration will take place each day from 31 January in the IAPO offices. It will run each day from 09h00 until 15h30.
Pre-registration for new students attending Orientation will begin from 13h30 onwards.
In order to speed up your pre-registration process with IAPO, please ensure that you come to UCT with copies of the page on your passport which contains your photo and details, and your study permit, as well as your proof of medical cover.
You will not be able to register with your faculty without having gone through pre-registration with IAPO.
Best wishes from the International Full Degree Team for a successful year ahead!
