UCT Australian Trust
The University of Cape Town established an international office in Australia in 2011, with the appointment of Ruth Thornton as Alumni Relations Manager. Alumni chapters are being established in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. The objectives of the alumni events are to:
- Organise successful events that foster professional and social contacts amongst alumni of the University of Cape Town;
- Expand the database of UCT alumni residing in Australia;
- Promote the University of Cape Town, its faculties, staff, students and alumni;
- Raise funds for the University of Cape Town Australian Trust.

The University of Cape Town Australian trust has been established as a separate entity in order to achieve tax deductibility for Australian residents donating to the University of Cape Town. Lenore Plummer was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2011.
The objective of the trust is to raise funds for financially disadvantaged students to attend UCT, and to provide the resources to assist these students achieve their goals. The fund must submit a detailed application to AusAID to achieve tax deductibility and must be able to demonstrate support from the Australian public. Trust objectives can be found at www.ucttrust.org.au.
The fund was launched during the visit to Australia by Dr Max Price and Lungile Jacobs with events held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Ruth Thornton and Lenore Plummer are available to assist regions with arranging events that will have relevance to UCT or its alumni.
