Harold Pupkewitz: 95 years old and still giving
1 February 2011
Mr Harold Pupkewitz turned 95 on 14 July 2010, 75 years after graduating with a BCom from the University of Cape Town in 1935. Generally regarded as the business icon of Namibia, he is still leading the Pupkewitz Group of Companies as the Executive Chairman. He has no plans to retire in the near future, but has identified his eventual successor.
Pupkewitz has been a generous supporter of UCT, in both his personal capacity and via the H Pupkewitz Trust. UCT Vice-Chancellor, Dr Max Price, recently thanked Mr Pupkewitz for the significant contribution he has made to UCT over the years. "You have been remarkable in your support of our great institution, and your gifts will help us to ensure that we continue to be an institution of which we are all duly proud. Your legacy as a friend of UCT is assured, and for this we and our students are deeply grateful."
