Let them go, let them grow
6 February 2007

At the Parents’ Orientation Programme, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele, assured parents that their children are in good hands.

"It is critical to let them go and experience what it’s like to grow intellectually, academically and socially," he said.

UCT’s Parents’ Orientation Programme, held on 3 and 5 February, has become increasingly popular.

Jameson Hall just about burst its seams with 3 600 parents attending the welcome address by Prof Ndebele.

The orientation programme covered everything a parent would want to know – from talks on the Jammie Shuttle Service to career development. There was also an opportunity for question-time with faculty deans.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Thandabantu Nhlapo eased the minds of yesterday’s group, those parents from outside the Western Cape.

"Remember your children are only a phone call away," he said. "This beginning is about as joyful as the end of the process."
