Vice-Chancellor’s official thanks to Sanlam
19 February 2007

Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele, presents a gift to Sanlam group CEO Dr Johan van Zyl.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Njabulo S Ndebele, hosted a lunch at Glenara to recognise Sanlam’s financial support over recent years. The financial giant has donated approximately R5 million to UCT's Bachelor of Business Science Extended Curriculum Programme.

Launched in 2001, the degree programme is an initiative designed to address the university’s concerns that black students’ access to, and success in, the Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc) programme have been unsatisfactory.

The programme, renamed the Sanlam Investment Management (SIM) UCT Business Science Extended Curriculum in 2002, began with a R4.8 million pledge over five years by the investment management company. It supports talented business and financial sector students unable to register because of stringent entry criteria.

Among those who attended the lunch was Dr Jim McNamara, executive director of the Development and Alumni Department.
