Culture, careers and women
27 February 2007

Women in science.

A delegation of women with expertise, experience and interest in science visited UCT on Tuesday, 20 February, to exchange ideas and discuss common issues with their counterparts.

The group was hosted by Professor Anusuya Chinsamy-Turan of the Department of Zoology, and chair of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE).

The delegation was chosen by the People to People Ambassadors Programmes. This cultural and educational exchange organisation advances international understanding and friendship through the exchange of ideas and experiences.

One of the subjects discussed was how culture affects women’s career choices.

"Women’s issues are global and the problems we face are universal," said Dr Mary Cahoon, a People to People delegate.
