The new Arch is a UCT student
28 September 2007

The new Anglican Church Archbishop, Thabo Makgoba, is a UCT student.

The 47-year-old Makgoba is doing his PhD in Business Administration at UCT, and is also involved in the Emerging Leaders Programme in the Centre for Leadership and Public Values at the Graduate School of Business.

The Anglican Church announced this week that Makgoba will succeed Njongonkulu Ndungane as the leader of its southern African region, making him one of the youngest bishops to hold the position.

A qualified psychologist, Makgoba is set to resume his duties in January, following in the footsteps of Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, among others. He will lead a parish of more than three million worshippers across South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia and St Helena island.
