Environmental award for UCT Law Faculty

The Faculty of Law has scooped the United National Environmental Programme's Mainstreaming Environment and Sustainability in African Universities Partnership (MESA) Award for 2008, presented at the inaugural MESA conference in Nairobi.
The accolade recognised recent initiatives to build the capacity of African law students to help them solve the environmental and sustainability challenges facing the continent.
These initiatives include several project building regional collaboration through the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers from African Universities; the reform and expansion of its LLM environmental programme and innovative teaching pedagogies within the LLB and LLM environmental law curriculum.
The award also endorsed the law faculty's efforts to raise awareness of environmental and sustainable development within the UCT faculty, specifically through the Environmental Week and Sustainable Kramer Initiative.
