UCT's Michaelis School of Fine Art is hosting its annual exhibition of works by master's students in their first, second and third- years of study.
Titled This is not final, the show displays complete as well as process artwork to give the public an idea of a process undertaken by artists to do their jobs. The pieces range from photographic reference images and collected and found objects, to rough sketches and lists, or even a set of instructions for a work's installation.
"Given that a masters degree is aimed both towards production and its framing in discourse, bringing a section of the studio into the gallery space provides a reflection on the thinking before or towards a practice as intrinsic to any work in whichever its stages of (non) finito," organisers explain.
The exhibition, which was co-curated by Bettina Malcomess and Peter van Heerden, 2010 Fellows of the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts, is on show at the Michaelis Galleries until 10 July.
