UCT ropes in chaplains
2 August 2010

Attending chaplainsJoining hands: Reverend Chaplain Christopher Swartz of the UCT chaplaincy (second from left) has agreed to share information with chaplains from the independent schools around the country.

The UCT Anglican Society and chaplaincy strengthened its relationship with chaplains from the independent schools associations around South Africa when they met at UCT on 29 July.

The chaplains hosted a morning session on campus as part of their annual conference, currently underway in Cape Town, but they were also given information on what UCT could offer their learners. They were told about the available programmes, support structures, and the university's outreach work, among other things.

Reverend Chaplain Christopher Swartz of the UCT chaplaincy noted that, in addition to providing spiritual services, the chaplains also give learners career guidance and life-skills lessons. Having seen the UCT offering, he hopes that they will encourage their learners to consider UCT as their first choice university.

"There are young people who still think they can't afford to come to UCT, unaware of the financial assistance the university offers, for instance," Swartz explained.
