It's all systems go at registration
7 February 2011

Registration 2011Queuing up: Registration of students went smoother than before at UCT.

Better preparation in the faculties means that this year's registration process may be smoother than before.

For one thing, the number of student data capturers trained to assist staff has been doubled.

Then undergraduate students in the Faculty of Commerce were invited to use a web-based registration facility. This allows students to submit forms in advance, and come registration day they need only to sign their pre-approved forms and have these captured.

"This considerably reduces the pressure on advisors during registration and removes the need for students to queue to see advisors," said Dr Karen van Heerden, deputy registrar responsible for academic administration.

The Faculties of Humanities and Law are piloting the same web-based approach with selected groups of students.

Faculties also offered presentations to provide first-year students with details regarding registration.

Registration continues until 9 February.
