Librarians book their places at UCT
13 March 2012

course participantsA learning curve: Librarians from Johannesburg have chosen to further their studies at UCT as part of a Carnegie-funded project.

A group of 10 librarians from Johannesburg have chosen to polish their skills at UCT.

The group is among 30 public librarians from around the country who were identified by the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) to do postgraduate diplomas in library and information studies at UCT, the University of the Western Cape and at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The librarians who selected UCT all work for the City of Johannesburg, and will trek down to Cape Town for a week once a month for the block-based, one-year course.

The Carnegie Corporation of New York funded the LIASA initiative to the tune of R10 million over the next three years to address the critical shortage of qualified librarians.
