Closet doors open for Pink Week

The familiar sight of a closet on Jammie Plaza alerted those students who didn't already know: from 8 to 12 October, UCT is commemorating its annual Pink Week. Organised by student society RainbowUCT, Pink Week is a week of activism and advocacy to educate the UCT community about "all issues related to sexual diversity", according to the society's website.

Aimed at the general university populace as well as specifically members of the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/intersex/questioning (LGBTIQ) community, the week's events include a series of talks by academics (and a pastor), and a screening of the documentary The Worst Place to be Gay.
The week's signature closet, on which students can pen messages of support, was also still present on Jammie Plaza at the time of writing, with hordes of students enthusiastically interacting with it.
