Thursday, 21 May 2009

Click to enlargeAn expert tuberculous meningitis (TBM) workshop organised by Dr Suzaan Marais was held at Spier in Stellenbosch from 8 to 10 May. Funded by UCT's Clinical Infectious Diseases Research Initiative, the workshop addressed the pathology, clinical features and management of the disease. Thirteen international experts presented their research findings to 41 invited participants. TBM is a devastating form of tuberculosis (TB) that can result in death and disability. Due of the high prevalence of TB, doctors in some Cape Town hospitals are faced with these patients on a daily basis.
