Finance lecturer top of the writing pile
Thursday, 4 June 2009

Click to enlargeThe Investment Analysts' Society has named a paper by finance lecturer Ryan Kruger of UCT's School of Management Studies as its best journal article of the year. The paper, Evaluating and Constructing Equity Benchmarks in the South African Portfolio Management Context, earned Kruger and his supervisor Professor Paul van Rensburg a purse of R25 000. Kruger analysed South African equity benchmarks to identify deficiencies in their make-up, and then attempted to clarify the connection between benchmark and fund size, concentration, liquidity and regulatory constraints. This is particularly relevant in South Africa as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange is characterised by high levels of concentration.
