Join us on 21 February as the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship invites learners, school staff, parents and the Western Cape Education Department, to engage in honest reflection and productive discussion on the inclusivity of the learning environments in our schools at The Grove Primary School.
As the Bertha Centre we are dedicated to surfacing innovations and engaging in discussions that generate inclusive opportunities and advance social justice through equal access to quality education. For this reason, we convened the Schools Inclusive Governance Network and training workshops in 2018, and intend to do so again later this year.
Unity, inclusion and understanding are the basic tenants of a successful and prosperous society. If South Africa is to develop into a thriving society then work needs to be done across all levels of society to promote inclusive practices and mechanisms that ensure that all who live in it are made to feel understood, included and accepted. This work often starts in schools, which are complex organisations that are challenging to lead and manage. They do not function in a vacuum, insulated from the political, economic, and social influences at play in society - in fact, these influences have a significant effect on the schooling process.
Together we’ll explore "How to build inclusive schools?" and work towards building actionable steps based on the input of all stakeholders within the education ecosystem.
