About us

The last decade has seen substantial growth in the areas of post-LLB studies. 40% of all students registered in the Faculty today are studying for Masters degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas and we take pride in the fact that we offer over 40 postgraduate courses. However, we are also mindful of the need to be current and to provide areas of specialisation which are valuable and relevant to solving the challenges facing human society.

It is for this reason, for example, that the postgraduate Environmental Law Programme has been restructured, and now includes Land Use Planning Law, Natural Resource Law and Pollution Law. A further innovation is that the new courses will comprise of a block teaching component (40 hours), which means that students not living in Cape Town can study large parts of the curriculum by correspondence.

Other new specialisations to be introduced in 2009 are Masters degrees in Social Justice & Development and Criminal Justice & Criminology, but as you browse through the 'pages' of our site you will see that all the key disciplines in law are represented, and you can start your studies in January or July. We look forward to welcoming you to the Faculty of Law at UCT.
