Fellowship pay-outs is dependent on the fellows’ first date of registration and approval of extension of research tenure . Pay-outs will therefore be administered according to the policy governing the postdoctoral sector. On this basis refunds will be process where applicable exactly 6 months from the fellows’ first date of registration.
Postdoctoral Conference Travel awards
Due to the current climate and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic all international and research travel applications have been put on hold indefinitely until UCT and South Africa provide clarification on when the restrictions on travel will be lifted.

The intention of these awards is to provide opportunities for Postdoctoral Research Fellows researchers who are registered for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year of postdoctoral research at UCT. Fourth and Fifth-year applicants will only be considered with strong motivation and under exceptional circumstances. (E.g. extensive research work required before research may be presented.) These Travel Grants are available, via competitive application, towards the costs of travel, conference registration and subsistence. UCT Postdoctoral Conference Travel Grants are not full-cost and are intended to provide a contribution towards the full cost of international or local travel*
Note: The following SADC countries are not considered to be “international”, and the local value (R8,000 maximum) will apply: Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Mozambique
