Disability service's new lab
The Disability Service has launched an improved computer lab, which will be more user-friendly and accessible to all students with disabilities.
The newly renovated lab is more spacious than that of the original office, formerly known as TCATS, which had been a working home to UCT’s blind and partially sighted students, their support staff and volunteers. Now transformed into a new, modern open-plan space with wide doors and passages, the lab is fully accessible to students using wheelchairs.
The Disability Service is also expecting a rise in the number of students next year and needs more capacity, says manager Reinette Popplestone.
“We started in a small and modest way and have expanded over the years,” adds Popplestone.
At the launch, Popplestone also thanked volunteer students who, she said, had done a great job using their skills, time and abilities to support those with disabilities.
