International competitive scholarships
General information
Since 2011, the University of Cape Town has been part of the Erasmus Mundus programmes and more than 30 postgraduate students and staff members have received scholarships to study and research at various European universities. The EMA2SA (Erasmus Mundus Action 2 for South Africa) programme, the EUROSA (Europe and South African Partnership for Human Development) programme as well as the EU-SATURN (European - South African programme in Tuning for Regional Needs in higher education) programmes form part of the Erasmus Mundus and External Cooperation division of the European Commission.
The University of Cape Town is proud to be associated with the EMA2SA and the EU-SATURN scholarship programmes for the academic cycles of 2013/14. UCT students and staff will be eligible to apply for these scholarship programmes as part of the Target Group 1 category. The University of Leuven (Belgium) is the European co-coordinating partner of EMA2SA with the University of Cape Town as the South African coordinating partner. The co-coordinating partners for the EU-SATURN programme are the University of Groningen and the University of the Free State.
The EUROSA scholarship programme is co-coordinated by the University of Antwerpen (Belgium) and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. UCT students will be eligible to apply for a EUROSA scholarship as part of the Target Group 2 category.
The EU-SATURN scholarship programme is the newest of the three programmes which will enable more students and staff to take advantage of mobility opportunities available and, due to the representative number of South African institutions in this consortium, it could result in more national collaboration as well.
More information and applications for these Erasmus Mundus programmes are available online and can be obtained from the websites of the programmes. All enquiries can be directed to Stephanie van Heerden at UCT's International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO).
