IAPO services: Pre-departure information: Airport pick-up
The International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) offers an airport pick-up service to new international full degree students arriving at Cape Town International Airport (domestic arrivals). This pick-up service is subsidized at a rate of 70 ZAR provided by IAPO primarily for international students who will be living in University accommodation and surrounding areas. The pick-up dates for January 2013 are Friday 25th , Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of January. Three time slots are allocated. The shuttles will depart from Cape Town International Airport (domestic arrivals) 1st Slot between 10:00-11:00, 2nd Slot 14:00-16:00 and 3rd Slot 21:00-22:00 on dates listed above. A UCT staff member and affiliated shuttle driver will be waiting for students at the arrivals exit. They will be identifiable; carrying signs with the UCT emblem or students names on them.
Unfortunately, we can't reserve spaces on the pick-up service for any friends or relatives, or returning students. In case your flight arrives at the international instead of the domestic terminal, you will need to ensure that you make your way to the domestic arrivals. (View the layout of Cape Town International Airport terminals.) As many students may arrived on the same dates, you may have to wait a little while others arrive. If you have luggage that needs to be collected from the airport's cargo department you will need to make separate arrangements for that.
Please note that the shuttle will only be making drop offs to, a UCT campus residence situated in the Rondebosch, Rosebank and Mowbray areas. The shuttles are only designated to transfer students to the above areas and will NOT follow alternative routes other than the designated ones, or make stops along the way to drop students off in other areas. It is therefore essential that you have the correct address of the UCT residence where you will be staying.
The official UCT residence opening date in 2013 is Tuesday 29 January. This means that students who have been accepted into a university residence will not be able to move in prior to the 29th of January. It is therefore essential that prior to your arrival in Cape Town you have made arrangements to live in the University vacation accommodation while you await the official residence opening date or in temporary accommodation (i.e. guest house, hotel) off-campus. The University vacation accommodation requires a separate application and has an additional charge. For further enquiries contact The Manager, UCT Vacation Accommodation Office.
In case you have made arrangements to stay in temporary accommodation in the Rondebosch, Rosebank and Mowbray areas and opt to use the UCT shuttle service from the airport, you will be dropped at UCT's Tugwell residence in Rondebosch and thereafter need to make arrangements to get to your temporary accommodation. IAPO staff members can advise student on how to obtain a taxi to your accommodation.
Once you have made your flight reservations please complete the Flight Details form and email it to Connie Williams. She will arrange the airport transfer and send a confirmation email to you within three days of receipt. Your flight details must be submitted before Monday 21 January 2013 to enable us to arrange adequate transport for you, so you need to be sure to submit the form before the deadline date. No requests will be accepted after the deadline date.
