IAPO services: Pre-departure information: Travel and arrival arrangements
Once you have accepted the offer to study at UCT, you should start making arrangements for your travel to Cape Town. Students who have applied to stay in a UCT residence and who plan to arrive earlier than the residence opening date must make arrangements to ensure that they will have a place to stay. You are advised to contact the university Vacation Accommodation Office to arrange your accommodation should you plan to arrive before the official residence opening date.

Students who are not in residences must make their arrangements with their own accommodation landlords.
You will either fly directly to Cape Town International Airport, or enter South Africa through O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, and transfer to a national flight to Cape Town. The Johannesburg international arrivals and domestic departures are located about 15 minutes away from each other. When making your air ticket booking, please ensure that you have adequate time to move from one terminal to the other to catch your connecting flight in time.
Should you travel to South Africa by train or bus, you will enter the country through one of the border posts. Ensure that you have the following documents handy: your passport and study permit (to be shown to the immigration officer), letter of offer of study at the university and details of accommodation arranged.
