ResNet: Support & facilities: Basic Settings

UserID or username and Password
- UserID below is your Campus student, staff or Third Party number
- UCT network password is the one that you use for most UCT network services e.g. email, Vula, Novell client
authentication etc

Register MAC address
MAC addresses are not required to be registered for a new computer to gain access the UCT network. When you connect your computer to the network, it is automatically allocated an IP number.

Enable DHCP to obtain an IP automatically
- Start | Settings | Network Connections
- Right-click Local Area Connections, then select Properties
- In the list of connection protocols, find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties
- Use the radio button to enable Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address
automatically
- Click OK

Log on to ISA
This is what you enter when a dialog pops up when connecting to internet:

Configure ResNet proxy
These are the settings required by your application to connect over to the internet:

Setup skype to work on ResNet
- Open Skype
- Go to: Tools | Connection Options
The Skype Options dialog box opens.
- Complete the following in the spaces provided:
- Do not change port number for incoming connections
- Tick the check box next to: Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections
- Click the dropdown arrow and select HTTPS
- Host: proxynet.uct.ac.za
- Port: 8080
- Tick the check box next to: Enable proxy authentication
- Username: wf\userID (userID = student, staff or third party number)
- Password: Type in your network password
- Click Save
- You have now set up Skype for use on ResNet
