Start date: 11th July 2013 End date: 13th July 2013 Call for proposals The University of Cape Town School of Dance hosts Confluences 7 Dance, Religion and Spirituality in Cape Town, South Africa Date: 11- 13 July 2013 Internationally acclaimed South African dancer and choreographer Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe will deliver the keynote address. As Dance moves further into conceptual territories in the 21st century how does this discussion make room for work/s that can be defined as crass, vulgar or insensitive for some audiences yet be sacred, thought provoking or artistically innovative for others who grant them approving intellectual nods? This conference seeks to share a range of responses to the nexus of Dance, Religion and Spirituality within the context of the performing arts, with a view to unearth and articulate the varied and complex interactions of the dancing body-spirit. The locality of Cape Town in South Africa offers a useful, discursive space in which to articulate the trinity of dance, religion and spirituality. Sub-themes and questions include:
Submit a proposal Deadline for submissions: 21 December 2012. We invite the submission of proposals which should include a brief rationale and abstract (max 250 words) of your paper, performative experience or workshop (max.1hour). Please provide us with your name, institutional affiliation, email address and contact details. Your proposal should outline whether you intend to make a joint presentation (max. 30 mins) or individual paper (max. 20 mins). As far as possible, individual papers will not run concurrently in the conference programme. Please send your submission(s) as email attachments in MS Word to Gerard Samuel@uct.ac.za or Lisa Wilson All proposals will be reviewed by the Conference Committee and feedback provided to applicants by the end of February 2013.
