Emergencies

Bombs

Suspicious parcel

  1. Establish the exact location
  2. Establish appearance
  3. Cover with a bomb blanket (if available)
  4. Inform the building emergency controller
  5. Inform Campus Security

Explosion

Try to determine

  1. Any casualties;
  2. Any fire;
  3. What emergency services are required.

Bomb threat

Try to determine

  1. When will it detonate?
  2. Where is the bomb?
  3. What does it look like?
  4. Why was it placed?
  5. How many devices are there?

If possible try to put the call through to the Campus Protection Office.

Inform

  1. Inform Campus Protection at 021 650 2222 / 3;
  2. Inform the building emergency controller;
  3. Ensure that the area is totally cordoned off and kept clear;
  4. Be available to give assistance to emergency services personnel.

Please report any incident that happens on the campus to CPS - even if there is no injury or damage. UCT will need to investigate the incident in order to prevent a similar occurrence.
