Introduction
Any plan to cope with an emergency situation should instill confidence and avert panic. Planning should focus on simplicity and intelligibility.
A complex and detailed plan is forbidding to potential users and therefore has very little chance of success.
In order to achieve this all staff should:
- be made aware what is required of them;
- know who is control;
- know the location of emergency equipment;
- know the evacuation routes;
- be constantly aware of fire hazards / foreign objects;
- co-operate during emergencies.
In the event of an emergency:
- do not make statements to the press;
- ensure that the Department of Communication and Marketing is alerted as soon as possible, and that it has access to all information. Tel: 021 650 3732. (After-hours numbers are 082 498 3737 or 082 925 2278.)
