Forms: First aid box

Minimum requirements for a First aid kit

As per General Safety Regulations.

The quantity of the items in the areas may vary depending on the size of the area, the number of staff and the risks in the areas.

  1. Wound cleaner / antiseptic (100ml)
  2. Swabs for cleaning wounds
  3. Cotton wool for padding (100g)
  4. Sterile gauze (minimum quantity 10)
  5. 1 Pair of forceps (for splinters)
  6. 1 Pair of scissors (minimum 100mm)
  7. 1 set of safety pins
  8. 4 triangular bandages
  9. 4 Roller bandages (75mm X 5m)
  10. 4 Roller bandages (100mm X 5m)
  11. 1 roll of elastic adhesive (25mm X 3m)
  12. 1 Non- allergenic adhesive strip (25mm X 3m)
  13. 1 Packet of adhesive dressing strip (minimum quantities, 10 assorted sizes)
  14. 4 First aid dressings (75mm X 100mm)
  15. 4 First aid dressings (150mm X 200mm)
  16. 2 Straight splints
  17. 2 pair's large and 2 pair's medium powder free latex disposable gloves
  18. 2 CPR mouthpieces or similar devices.
  19. An adequate supply of absorbent material for the absorption of blood and other body fluid spills.
  20. Disinfectant to disinfect the area after cleaning up blood and other body fluids.
  21. A suitably sized impervious bag for the safe disposal of blood and other body fluid. contaminated bio-hazardous material.

- It is recommended that additional gloves and a blanket are kept near the first aid kit.
- Any items not on the list must be approved by the Occupational Health Nurse, e.g. Burn
- Shield (no medicines)
- You may ask the Occupational Health Nurse to do Basic Risk Assessment...ext 2021
