Registration
Humanities: Fast-track registration 2011
For returning students registered for general degrees (i.e., BA or BSocSci)
Who is eligible for "Fast Track" registration?
You may use this option only if:
- You are a returning student in the BA or BSocSci general degrees. (Only students registered for HB001 or HB003 are eligible. This is a pilot program and students registered for named degree programmes cannot be included at this stage);
- Your record at the end of 2010 says "Academically eligible to continue" on Peoplesoft (i.e. you are passing all or most of your courses and have not been given an FEC concession. Students with SUPP or DE results outstanding are not eligible);
- Your course choices for 2011 are straightforward and do not require concessions or advice;
- You have good computer skills and are comfortable with working with PDF files and email file attachments.
- You complete the email submission by 4pm on Thursday 27th January at the latest. Please try and submit as early as possible, as it gives the curriculum advisors time to work through the forms.
How do you fill in your curriculum form?
- You can download the front page of the form at the right hand side. (The second page is not needed at this stage. You will receive, and complete it, on the day of registration).
NB: Please ensure that you download and complete the correct form - depending on whether you expect to be completing your degree in 2011 or not. There are two forms, one for HB001/HB003 returning students (non-finalists) and another separate form for HB001/HB003 finalists. - Please note that when you load the form into Adobe there may be a few seconds of delay before the data fields are active to receive text.
- The forms are in an editable PDF format: you will need to load the form into Adobe Reader and type in your details and course choices.
- When you save the form onto your home computer to work on it, please give it a file name which includes your name and student number.
- The 2011 Humanities handbook is available in PDF to download in the right-hand sidebar, so you can check for any changes to majors, courses or timetable and can obtain the correct class numbers.
- The duly completed curriculum form should be emailed to: hum-ugrad@uct.ac.za, with the subject line: 2011 Fast Track Registration Form.
Who checks your curriculum choices?
- The completed curriculum form will be checked and signed by a curriculum advisor.
- If there are any problems with your course choice, the form will not be signed, and you will have to go through the usual registration process in Jameson Hall instead, on your assigned registration date. You will be informed via email if there is a problem with your form.
What happens at registration?
- You need to come to Humanities registration on your assigned day - as specified in the registration schedule
- Stand in the separate queue for pre-approved forms.
- Collect your Curriculum and Registration forms.
- If your course choice is straightforward and the curriculum advisor found no problems, you be asked to sign your Curriculum and Registration forms and go straight to the fast-track queue at the Dean's Table for a final signature.
- From there you take your signed forms to data capturing, which this year will be in South Side One Lab.
- If you have changed your mind about a course choice you will have to go through the usual registration process to have a new form signed by a curriculum advisor and the Dean's table.
Warning!
Please only try this early online registration process if your curriculum choices are very simple and you are not likely to change your mind. This is a pilot process, which is why it is only open to a limited category of students. If it works we will consider widening it next year. There may also be glitches in the system - please be patient.
