Before I went to see this play, my expectations were to go on a journey and learn the intimate thoughts of a writer, activist and poet. I expected to take in the moment, the words, the energy and reflect on my own story. And did it do that? Yes, in many more ways than expected. It took me to further places – to places of validated dreams and liberated fears.

Van Wyk: The Storyteller of Riverlea explores the life and works of renowned South African writer, poet and activist, Chris Van Wyk. Written and performed by his close friend Zane Meas, and directed by Christo Davids, the production pays tribute to this influential and intelligent thinker by showcasing his character, humour, political views and the people that surrounded his life.

This is a must-see piece of theatre that will not only feed your mind with necessary reflection but, perhaps, ignite a love for reading and writing.
