A limited number of scholarships are available annually to international and refugee students for postgraduate study in any discipline at UCT. As there is only one call for applications each year, it is important that the application procedure is strictly followed. These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, and preference is given to senior candidates.

All UCT international and refugee students' scholarships are supplementary as a contribution towards the cost of attendance. Students who apply must have the means to fund their studies.

Applicants must apply for full-time admission through the UCT admissions office or the faculty office.

NOTICES
The call for applications for 2026 will not open, due to funding constraints. We encourage you to source other means of funding!
The PGFO unfortunately cannot support extension of funding for applicants who are out of funding tenure – this applies to 3rd year Masters degrees and above, and 4th year Doctoral degrees and above.
For alternate funding opportunities: Try to approach your Department heads or supervisor about funds available. Alternatively, you can apply for a loan via Student Hero.

The applicant's country of origin has no bearing on the award of scholarships, but proof of refugee status is required.

Please refer to Financial Assistance for Postgraduate Study and Postdoctoral Research (Handbook 14) for full details.
